Little known among many citizens of Columbus today is the fact that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King gave an heroic speech here at the Prince Hall Masonic Temple of Columbus in spite of credible death threats. This anniversary event is designed to bring attention and awareness to this untold piece of the civil rights drama. It was on the night of July 1, 1958 that Dr. King’s voice echoed in these walls, resulting in violent repercussions towards blacks in Columbus. If you’ve never heard the story about MLK in Columbus, Georgia, you won’t want to miss this special event.
